How We Can Help

At Whanganui Counselling Services, we work with individuals, couples, families, and small groups who are wanting to make sense of what's going on and work out where to from here. Our work is practical, grounded, and collaborative. We focus on understanding patterns, pressures, and life context - helping you see the bigger picture so you can move forward with clarity and intention.

INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
One-to-one sessions for adults who are:

  • feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or fatigued

  • feeling stuck, unsure, or at a crossroads

  • carrying long-term responsibility or emotional load

  • noticing repeated patterns and wanting change

  • wanting space to think clearly and talk things through

Sessions often involve sense-mapping - visually mapping what's been happening so it becomes easier to understand, reflect on, and work with.

COUPLES, FAMILY & RELATIONSHIP CONVERSATION
Support for couples, families, or small groups who want to:

  • clarify issues and communication

  • understand each other's perspectives

  • identify patterns that keep repeating

  • find practical ways forward together

These sessions focus on understanding, direction, and constructive change - not blame.

Being who you are is always good enough - knowing what you need changes everything.

STRESS, FATIGUE & LIFE LOAD
Support for people experiencing:

  • ongoing stress, burnout, or overload

  • difficulty switching off or making decisions

  • the impact of work pressure, caregiving, or life transitions.

We work together to understand what you're carrying and what needs attention now.

FIRST SESSIONS - FINDING THE RIGHT FIT
Your first session is an opportunity to:

  • talk through what's going on for you

  • clarify what kind of support you're looking for

  • see whether the way wee work feels like a good fit

There is no pressure to continue. You're welcome to take time to reflect before deciding on next steps.

ABOUT THE WAY WE WORK
I bring a broad mix of lived experience, training, education, and professional practice. I don't work from a single model or rigid framework. Instead, I draw from a range of tools - including counselling - depending on what is useful and appropriate for you. Above all, I work in a way that is honest, respectful, and grounded. This is a space where we keep things real and focused on what matters.

Availability - All sessions are self-funded and available now. We currently have spaces available.

Urgent Court-Related Assessments & Reports

Last Minute High-Quality Reports

Sometimes the need requires speed, urgency, efficiency, and thoroughness all at once. People come in needing urgent assistance – often under pressure facing a court appearance, sentencing, or navigating major life consequences. In situations like these, I offer a specialised, fast-response assessment and reporting service.

This service includes:

  • A one-off urgent assessment session in person

  • A brief and thorough written report for court purposes, outlining:

  • Background and presenting issue

  • The individual’s insight into their actions

  • A summary of current attitude (e.g. remorse, responsibility, ownership)

  • Motivation to change, and future direction

  • Familial support

  • Willingness to engage in counselling or ongoing support

My approach is, I take each person as they come, as they present themselves – with honesty, empathy, transparency, and clarity. It is not about ticking boxes – it’s about seeing the person behind the moment and identifying a path forward if they are ready and willing to take it.

Note:
This is not a psychological or psychiatric assessment. The report is based on an assessment conversation at a point in time, regardless of whether the person has come for counselling, education, or another form of support. It focuses on the individual's presentation, insight, stated accountability, and expressed direction at the time of meeting. The report is suitable for court support letters, sentencing reports, and professional summaries.

  • From chaos to clarity.

  • Step by step, your path reveals itself.

  • March to the sound of your drum, not someone else’s noise!

  • The “Yes, and You too” factor!

  • Know, see, and speak your truth.
