Counselling Services

Welcome to Whanganui Counselling Services. I take it you are wanting to talk, looking for answers, some guidance and support - looking for the right place to land. A space where you can sit and be. You are in the right place. We offer accessible, professional counselling for individuals, couples, and families. Standard session fees apply to all.

I provide one-on-one, honest, down-to-earth, and practical counselling. I will listen, support, and guide you to achieve your goals. It is a two-way street. We both bring something unique and valuable to the table. It takes courage to sit and talk to a stranger but something brought you here. Let’s talk about it. I bring a broad skillset and many years of lived experience - combined with a strong foundation of training, education, personal and professional development, countless workshops, counselling qualifications, and business management expertise. It's a real mix - for a mix of real people.

I adopt an eclectic approach – drawing from a wide variety of tools and resources. I don’t lock into one method or model. Instead, I keep a diverse set of tools in my arsenal, ready to use as needed to support each client through the counselling process. I don't wave magic wands. I keep it real and focus on my client and our interaction. I am upfront and honest, and respectful of my clients, the space we are in, and the counselling process. Above all, I see it as a privilege.

One-on-One/Couples/Relationships/Small Family Groups
I specialize in counselling individuals and couples. Relationship counselling is a vital need today, and we recognize that healthy relationships - in all their forms - are at the heart of personal wellbeing. Whether you are navigating challenges in your marriage, partnership, friendships, family, or any two-person relationship, counselling can provide a safe, supportive space to talk, reflect, and find a way forward. I will consider younger persons (depending on ages and the issues at hand), and small family groups may also be supported where appropriate.

At Whanganui Counselling Services, relationships and couples counselling goes beyond problem-solving. It's about strengthening communication, restoring connection, and creating healthier ways of being together - whatever the shape of your relationship.

What are the issues we address?
Some common concerns people seek counselling for are:
Anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief and loss, relationships issues, gambling, health-related issues, low self-esteem, communication issues, boundaries, life transitions, co-dependency, anger, frustration, confidence, conflict, workplace issues, women’s issues, career choices, exploring parenting issues, dealing with the mental, emotional, and physical impact of health issues. There is really no end to “issues” in life. Parent/Child interactions. If you don’t see yours here, call me. We practice referral also, if required.

Urgent Court-Related Assessments & Reports

Last Minute High-Quality Reports

Sometimes the need requires speed, urgency, efficiency, and thoroughness all at once. People come in needing urgent assistance – often under pressure facing a court appearance, sentencing, or navigating major life consequences. In situations like these, I offer a specialised, fast-response assessment and reporting service.

This service includes:

  • A one-off urgent assessment session in person

  • A brief and thorough written report for court purposes, outlining:

  • Background and presenting issue

  • The individual’s insight into their actions

  • A summary of current attitude (e.g. remorse, responsibility, ownership)

  • Motivation to change, and future direction

  • Familial support

  • Willingness to engage in counselling or ongoing support

My approach is, I take each person as they come, as they present themselves – with honesty, empathy, transparency, and clarity. It is not about ticking boxes – it’s about seeing the person behind the moment and identifying a path forward if they are ready and willing to take it.

Note:
This is not a full psychological or psychiatric assessment. It is a counselling-based overview, suitable for court support letters, sentencing reports, or workplace, professional summaries. I will discuss with client and any support people present.

  • From chaos to clarity.

  • Step by step, your path reveals itself.

  • March to the sound of your drum, not someone else’s noise!

  • The “Yes, and You too” factor!

  • Know, see, and speak your truth.
